Pet-Friendly Artificial Turf – Bulawayo
A Lawn Built for Paws, Play, and Zero Mud
Pets are tough on a real lawn — digging, wear patterns, and muddy paw prints tracked through the house are par for the course. Tusker Civils & Landscapes’ pet-friendly turf gives Bulawayo homeowners a permanently green, mud-free space their dogs and cats can use every day without tearing it apart. It’s part of our full Artificial Grass range, alongside our Landscaping Turf and Sports Turf options.
If your pets are less destructive and you’d prefer a natural lawn, our Instant Lawns range — including hard-wearing Kikuyu — is also worth a look. And if you’re finishing a dog run or side yard alongside the new turf, our Paving teams can tie it all together.
Our Installation Process, Step by Step
Site Assessment and Levelling
We visit your property, assess the area pets will use most, and clear existing grass, weeds, or rubble before grading and levelling the base so the finished surface sits flat and drains properly.
Base and Drainage Preparation
A compacted, permeable sub-base is laid beneath the turf. This step matters more for pet areas than any other application — good drainage moves liquid waste away from the surface quickly, which keeps odours down and the turf dry.
Laying, Rolling, and Jointing
The turf is rolled out, joints are seamed for an invisible finish, and edges are trimmed cleanly around beds, fencing, and paving. We roll the full area to secure the turf and eliminate any loose edges pets could pull at.
Infill and Finishing
We brush sand or rubber infill through the fibres to help the blades stand upright and add extra durability in high-traffic pet zones, leaving a surface that’s ready for immediate use.

Pile Height Options & Pricing
| Pile Height | Best For | Price (USD/m²) |
|---|---|---|
| 20mm | Dog runs, high-traffic pet zones, easiest to clean | $8 |
| 25mm | General pet-friendly family lawns | $12 |
| 30mm | Feature lawns with moderate pet use | $15 |
| 35mm | Premium, plush finish for lighter pet traffic | $17 |
For heavy diggers and high-traffic zones, 20mm–25mm pile is the practical choice — shorter fibres resist matting under repeated paw traffic and are easier to rinse clean. For gardens with lighter pet use, 30mm–35mm gives a lusher, more premium look without sacrificing durability. All pile heights share the same UV-stable, low-maintenance construction, so the decision comes down to how hard your pets actually use the space.
Sun exposure and use. Lower pile heights (20mm–25mm) suit walkways, low-traffic garden beds, and budget-conscious projects. Higher piles (30mm–35mm) give a lusher, more premium finish for feature lawns and entertainment areas that see regular foot traffic.
Foot traffic. High-use areas like entertainment patios and family gardens hold up better with 30mm or 35mm turf, which resists matting under repeated use. Lower-traffic decorative areas can use 20mm–25mm without compromising on look.
Budget and finish. All pile heights carry the same UV-stable, low-maintenance construction — the difference is purely density and plushness underfoot, so you’re never trading durability for price.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is artificial turf actually safe for dogs and cats?
Yes. Our turf is non-toxic, free of sharp edges, and doesn’t require pesticides or fertilisers, so there’s nothing harmful for pets to come into contact with.
2. Will artificial turf smell of pet urine over time?
A properly drained sub-base is what prevents this. Our installation includes a permeable base layer that moves liquid away from the surface quickly, and routine rinsing keeps odour from building up.
3. Can dogs dig up artificial turf?
Determined diggers can work at the edges, but a correctly seamed and secured installation resists this far better than natural grass, which tears and holes easily under the same behaviour.
4. Which pile height is best for a dog run?
Shorter pile — 20mm to 25mm — is usually the practical choice for high-traffic pet zones. It resists matting and rinses cleaner than longer, plusher pile heights.
5. How do I clean up after my pets on artificial turf?
Solid waste lifts off the surface easily, and a hose rinse handles the rest. No mud, no digging up soiled patches, no reseeding.
6. Does artificial turf get too hot for pets to walk on?
It can warm up in direct summer sun, like any dark surface, but our UV-stable turf is engineered for Zimbabwe’s climate and a quick rinse cools it down immediately.
7. How much does pet-friendly turf cost in Bulawayo?
Pricing runs from $8 to $17 per square metre depending on pile height, plus site preparation. Contact us for an accurate quote based on your space and pet needs.
8. How soon can you install after I request a quote?
In most cases we can schedule a site visit and installation within days, depending on current bookings and turf availability.
